First Fondant Cake!

Hey guys! I finally got a chance to work with fondant for the first time. I have always wondered what it felt like and if it would turn out as smoothly as I would see on TV. I think I did really well for my first time and the customer really liked it! Here are some pictures:
I mixed together some pink and white to
make a strip around the bottom of the cake.
All in all, it was a red velvet cake topped with
 some creamy-cream-cheese frosting
and covered in pink and white fondant.
I had just bought flower shaped cookie
cutters and decided to use those to decorate
around the cake. I think it worked out.

*P.S: I have always wanted to know what fondant tastes like....I don't know what I expected but it was a nice sugary paste flavor. I can't wait to show you guys more of the stuff I make in the near future. Until next time!

Review: Baking by Amanda Hesser & Merrill Stubbls

About the book:

A stunning collection of hassle-free recipes for baking cakes, cookies, tarts, puddings, muffins, bread, and more, from the editors behind the leading food website Food52.

Whether it's the chocolate cake at every childhood birthday, blondies waiting for you after school, or hot dinner rolls smeared with butter at Thanksgiving dinner, homemade baked goods hold a place in many of our best memories. And that's why baking shouldn't be reserved for special occasions.

With this book, curated by the editors of Food52, you can have homemade treats far superior to the store-bought variety, even when it feels like you're too busy to turn on the oven. From Brown Butter Cupcake Brownies to "Cuppa Cuppa Sticka" Peach and Blueberry Cobbler, these sixty reliable, easy-to-execute recipes won't have you hunting down special equipment and hard-to-find ingredients or leave you with a kitchen covered in flour and a skink piled high with bowls. They're not ordinary or ho-hum, either: ingredients you've baked with before (and some you haven't - like black sesame, coconut oil, and lavender) come together to create new favorites like Baked Cardamom French Toast and Olive Oil and Sesame Crackers. Filled with generations’ worth of kitchen wisdom, beautiful photography, and tips you'll return to, Bakingis the new go-to collection for anyone who wants to whip up something sweet every day.

My Review
There were many amazing recipes within this book. I loved the chocolate espresso brownie recipe and will undoubtedly be trying that one out soon. It brought recipes for things I didn't even know existed! One of the best things about the recipes included in this book would be the simplicity of them. The directions are well written and it's hard to make a mistake. They are also easy when it comes to the fact that there aren't many things needed in both of them. Everything is easy to understand and you only need a few ingredients. The only thing was that I would have preferred sweeter recipes. A bit more brownies and/or cake recipes. Since my family and I enjoy when I bake things on the sweeter side.
